Storyline
Kevin tricks and locks Mr. Prescott in the basement, but eventually discovers Marv and Vera's real ally is Molly, who is also Marv's mother. After several failed attempts to call Kate, Kevin escapes via the house's dumbwaiter and temporarily traps Marv underneath it. Marv and Vera pursue Kevin through the house, where they spring the traps and suffer various injuries, while Molly gets trapped in the house's elevator. Whereas Home Alone 3 featured a standalone plot and new characters, this film brings back several of the main characters from the first two films, including Kevin McCallister, but with all of the roles played by different actors. The plot revolves around Kevin McCallister trying to defend his future stepmother's house from his old nemesis Marv and his sidekick/wife Vera. It was the last film that Rod Daniel directed before his subsequent retirement (partly due to his diagnosis from Parkinson's disease, complications of which resulted in his death in 2016).

The couple spot Max talking with someone and assume she is his grandmother. They resolve to break into the house once again while their family is still at church. Meanwhile, Max discovers the whole family has left and initially has fun, though he quickly grows bored and misses them. Overhearing them talk about getting an "ugly little boy", Max assumes they are talking about kidnapping and selling him. Max fears if Officer McCallister realizes he is home alone, his parents may get arrested.
The police arrive and arrest Harry and Marv, having identified all the houses that they broke into due to Marv's destructive habit of flooding them. The first of the "Home Alone" movie series was released for theChristmas season in 1990. Every kid in 1992 was enthused by the Talkboy when they see Kevin with it in the movie. Hughes had dreamed it up for the purposes of the movie and then Tiger Electronics made it for him. They also released it as a tie-in to the movie, and many of those kids clamoring for a Talkboy were able to actually get it.
Michael Walsh of Nerdist noted the church scene as "One of the best, most touching scenes ". Home Alone was the number-one film at the box office for 12 consecutive weeks, from its release weekend of November 16–18, 1990 through the weekend of February 1–3, 1991. It was removed from the top spot when Sleeping with the Enemy opened with $13 million. It remained in the top ten until the weekend of April 26, well past Easter weekend.
